Dates below are calculated, not copied — solstices and equinoxes from standard astronomical algorithms, cross-quarter days on their conventional civil dates, and each labelled so you can tell which is which.

Southern hemisphere dates are not a translation error: the wheel follows the seasons, so Yule falls in June if that is your winter.

History you can check

Every claim on these pages carries a label — historical, folklore, modern practice, astronomy — and cites its sources. A great deal of what circulates about these festivals was invented in the twentieth century. That is genuinely interesting, and worth saying out loud rather than dressing up as ancient.
